The acoustics inside the rock-hewn chambers are so perfect that spiritual music echoes beautifully through the air. The monastery's detailed carvings, khachkars (cross-stones), and mystical ambiance make it one of Armenia’s most treasured sights.

Located in the Ararat region at over 1,000 meters above sea level, the Azat Reservoir glistens like a mirror nestled between mountains. Originally built for irrigation in 1976, it has since become a serene escape for nature lovers. On calm days, the water reflects the sky so clearly that it creates an almost dreamlike landscape—especially at sunrise or under a full moon. It’s an ideal stop for peaceful contemplation and photography.

Arguably Armenia’s most photographed monastery, Khor Virap sits dramatically near the Turkish border, with Mount Ararat looming in the background. Its history runs deep—this is where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 13 years before converting King Trdat III, leading to Armenia becoming the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD. Visitors can even descend into the underground chamber where Gregory was held. With panoramic views and spiritual weight, Khor Virap is both a visual and emotional highlight.
